What happens when I update my Terms & Conditions?

Customers accept your Terms & Conditions once, when they create their account. Updating your terms link, text, or contract PDF does not ask existing customers to accept them again, and the date shown on their profile stays the date of their original acceptance.

Your customers' account settings show your current terms, not the version they originally accepted. That makes it important to keep your own record of past versions.

What we recommend when you update your terms
  1. Keep every version. Save a copy of each version with its effective date, for example consignment-terms-2026-11.pdf. Upload a new file or page for each version rather than overwriting the old one, so you can always show what a customer agreed to on a given date.
  2. Keep a change log. Note the date of each update and what changed. Together with the acceptance date on each customer's profile, this tells you which version a customer accepted when they created their account.
  3. Notify your existing customers. Let past and current consignors know your terms have changed, for example through your newsletter or a bulk email, and include a link to the new version and the date it takes effect.
  4. Check with your attorney. This is common practice for software platforms, but we can't give legal advice. Your attorney can confirm what notice your updates require, and whether some changes need customers to explicitly agree again.
